National Gallery Lates : Poetry with Writers Kingston
Event #94 - December Friday 11th 2026
7pm and free : Gallery meeting point to be released soon
A pioneering collaboration between Writers Kingston and the students of Kingston University and The National Gallery, this event will be the final instalment of the project with the end of the Friday Night Late program at the gallery. Since 2013 there have been 13 events which have featured 30 young poets and writers studying at Kingston University in the creative writing program. These students worked with KU lecturer SJ Fowler and curators at The National Gallery to write new pieces of ekphrastic writing - poems and texts and performances responding to specific paintings they chose in galleries given by the curators. The events have then unfolded as walking tours, going painting to painting, as the students read alongside SJ Fowler and chosen guest authors who have included actor Toby Jones, comedian Stewart Lee, author Iain Sinclair and many others.
